Workshops and Meeting Facilitation

When you need to find a way to discuss important issues with your significant stakeholders, whether individuals or groups, facilitated workshops are a key strategy. They can also be used to introduce difficult or controversial issues while working towards an agreed solution.

These are highly interactive events, often held in neutral venues, where you can benefit from the opportunity to produce quality results in a very short time frame.  Having an experienced, neutral facilitator can also be a significantly easier way to achieve results more quickly than ongoing internal discussions.

Susie facilitated an excellent session for the directors of our newly incorporated organisation, helping them understand their roles, responsibilities and legal obligations, as well as encouraging them to consider the vision, mission and goals for the organisation for the coming year.
— Tracey Shelley, Chief Executive & Company Secretary, BCECA
I am sure you will be as delighted as me to hear that we have received a number of very positive comments regarding the meeting. Your facilitation skills and trade body experience and background were particularly appreciated by the Council. Which is, of course, exactly what I was hoping for, and you successfully got them to change hats. Well done. I have already produced an agency brief for our member marketing and communications strategies. Onwards and upwards!
— Edmund Proffitt, Chief Executive, BDIA
Thank you so much for all your help and wonderful facilitation yesterday. You made our team day run very elegantly and to time! I think we all enjoyed the day and were pleased with the ‘outputs’.
— Gill Cronin, Head of Patron Membership Team, LCCI
The session was fantastic - thank you so much! The meeting went really well today. We said after you had gone, what a good ‘find’ you were. I think I must hire you for the next meeting. Although it won’t be completely plain sailing from now on, there is no longer so vast a mountain to climb.
— MM, Chief Executive Officer
Thank you for a great session at our recent team day. It was a valuable day both in terms of coming together with the team but also sharing our experiences and ideas.
— Liz C, Head of Health & Safety
As a person who has worked for the private, public and voluntary sector, I was very impressed by Susie’s training which made me really realise the importance of continuously using professionalism at work and in your personal life.
— Volunteer Co-ordinator, Watford Women’s Centre Plus
There was much frank and open discussion which was hugely refreshing. The offering of practical solutions to combat barriers was probably the most beneficial part of the day (or should that be plural as there were many solutions offered). The honesty and openness of the day created a togetherness that I can only see benefiting the team in the march forward to implementing ISO9001 and achieving compliance. Everyone is going into the process with eyes wide open which will hopefully allow the process to be as painless as possible. Everything was dealt with in a sensitive way and it was very interesting that - without prompting – Susie’s own experiences were highly pertinent to the issues concerning the team before any of the team’s issues had been disclosed.
— Sean P, Health & Safety Business Partner
It was a great day and very beneficial. To sum it up in 5 words – informative, fun, engaging, thought-provoking and inspiring. Despite being given limited information and time to prepare, Susie delivered an appropriately targeted, insightful and focused presentation that enabled us to understand where we are now, the challenges ahead and a plan for getting there. The presentation on what good governance looks like was really useful along with the plan for action in the afternoon. As a result we have a plan to begin to address the challenges ahead of us in improving our governance arrangements. We have a better knowledge and understanding of each other as a team, and we have a shared understanding of what we are trying to achieve. For the time available and the brief given, I do not think it could have been improved.
— Elaine F, Assistant Director (Governance)
Just wanted to thank you for your facilitating our session last week. I felt we all got a lot from the day. For me what I will take away from the day is Clarity. Ensuring it’s in everything that I do, whether I have it on a task I’ve been assigned or instructions I am giving across.
— Nick T, Governance Officer
I wanted to thank you for the excellent work you did with my Board in helping us to reach a decision on an issue which had been blocking progress for many months.

The background discussions we had were very useful in identifying some of our problems and finding solutions to tackle them. Your guidance on how to structure and run the meeting was invaluable.

In addition to the progress made on the day you also provided further insight into how to improve other aspects of our governance.

A message from one of my Board members summed it up very well:
“Just a quick note to say thanks for the meeting today. I personally felt it was one of the most constructive we have had for some time as a board. It was clearly very well prepared and I felt having an outside facilitator to assist in our discussions was invaluable.”

In addition to the above it was also a pleasure to work with you!
— Dawn Howard, Chief Executive, National Office of Animal Health
Many thanks for your presentation – I am using the technique to assist my planning and thinking. And it’s working!!
— Millie B
